Overview
Sharuma HMIS is a healthcare management information system developed to simplify daily operations, clinical documentation, patient management and reporting for healthcare facilities in Zanzibar and Tanzania Mainland.
The system is designed to be easy to use, independent, practical and accessible to healthcare facilities of different sizes — from small dispensaries to hospitals.
Core Capabilities
Practical workflows for clinical teams, pharmacy, laboratory, administration and facility management.
Clinical guidance is aligned with the Standard Treatment Guidelines used in Zanzibar and Tanzania Mainland, helping professionals work within the relevant guidance for their location.
Supports automated preparation and submission of weekly disease surveillance reports to eIDSR, reducing repetitive manual reporting and improving consistency.
Supports the preparation and submission of monthly reports through configured reporting workflows for the facility.
Each facility can independently configure the SMS messages it sends to patients — including appointment reminders, follow-up reminders and service notifications.
Prepared for integration with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and the Zanzibar Health Services Fund (ZHSF). Readiness is a technical starting point, not a claim of live or certified claims processing.
A new facility can be provisioned with its own HMIS environment in approximately five minutes under normal supported conditions. Actual onboarding time depends on configuration and readiness.
Designed for straightforward day-to-day healthcare operations, with reduced administrative complexity for facility teams.
Facility Coverage
Reception, clinical care, pharmacy, laboratory, wards, inventory, billing and reporting connect into a single record for each patient visit.
Managing these areas together reduces duplicated work and gives facility managers a clearer operational picture.

Important Context
The system has been prepared to connect with NHIF and ZHSF. It is not presented here as an approved, live or certified insurance integration.
Each facility configures its own message templates and communication workflows, and remains responsible for appropriate patient communication.
Rapid provisioning is possible under normal supported conditions; real onboarding time depends on configuration, data and facility readiness.
